How do I delete email from my Sent box and Inbox? They are loaded. I was using Netscape 6 and could no longer access my email box and had to upgrade to Netscape 7 but my mail disappeared after that.

I just checked the two boxes and the Sent box has 161MB and the Inbox 75MB. They have to go.

Please make it simple. I am a beginner and it wasn't easy for me even to find the Sent box and the Inbox. I had to read an article I saved from this site sometime ago.

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the Forum, Barbs!

    Barbs,

I thought we should start you out with your own thread...

In order for you to not lose any mail for those humongous files, I'm going to have you rename those folders. We'll get to that, but first things first.

To create a new Sent folder and Inbox folder isn't going to be hard, I promise. What you need to do first, is to make a copy of your Profiles folder, and paste it into another folder on your hard drive. Do you have a "backup" folder? If not it would be a good idea to create one. You really need to back up the Profiles folders on a frequent basis.

    To create a folder:
    Open Windows Explorer
Highlight the "C:" in the left panel
Place your cursor (mouse) in the right panel, and right click
    Select: New | Folder
You will see a flashing blue rectangle
In that field type: "Backup "

Next: Go to your Profiles folder located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles
    Highlight the Profiles folder
    Right click, and select: Copy

Go to your C:\Backup folder and highlight
    Right click, and select: Paste

Now you have a backup of the Profiles folder

    Next:
In the Profiles folder drill down to your Mail Account folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt\Mail\pop.yourISP.net
(This is an example, yours will be filled in with your info.)

Find the Inbox file with NO MSF EXTENSION
    Rename the file to OLDInbox
    Delete the Inbox.msf file

Find the Sent file with NO MSF EXTENSION
    Rename the file to OLDSent
    Delete the Sent.msf file

Now, open Netscape, and a pristine Inbox and Sent file will be created. This way you can still open those large files, but still keep your Inbox at a reasonable size.

Create some subfolders in your OLDInbox and OLDSent folders, and then organize your Mail.

Ask away if this isn't perfectly clear.

    Hi Ramona,

I got it right, so far. Thank you very much.

The new Inbox is empty now. All the email is in the OLDInbox, renamed that way.

Now, how do I open the OLDInbox, and the OLDSent box, and delete the email I don't want? They are overloaded, 237 MB, and I want to delete most of the email.

I use Netscape 7.2. I thought they would be on the left panel of my email page but when I pointed the arrow at the icons on the panel, no names showed up to identify the icons and what they represent.

    Barbs,

Look in the "Local Folders" for the OldInbox and OldSent folders. They will have question marks besides them (???) but once you click on the folder the Mail will appear.

    Reducing the Inbox

In trying to reduce the amount of mail in the sent box, I deleted what I didn't want, moved what I wanted to keep to another file. When I went to copy and do a backup, the file was still showing a huge file. How do I get the file to recognize the changes?
    Using Netscape 7.0--Windows XP--
    Thank you,
    Rob Allen

    Rob,

You must "Compact" folders in order to reduce the file size on the HDD:
    File | Compact Folders
