Hi. Folks, I wish to sell a computer which I no longer use. In order to ensure that there is no personal information on the hard drive would it be sufficient to run the 'Master Disks' to erase such information. The computer is a Packardbell Platinum 4001 using Windows 98 SE. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards, William.

I presume you have restore disks from packard bell as opposed to full install disks from microsoft etc.
While restoring will make it appear that all other information is gone, it is actually still there, just not indexed into the file table and can be recovered with recovery software. To ensure that it is permanently obliterated, I would followup with a "erase unused disk space " option in eraser which will overwrite the unoccupied areas of the drive with random data making anything which was there unrecoverable.

Hello Oshwyn, Many thanks for your reply. The disks I refer to were supplied by Packardbell. Your info is much appreciated. Regards, William.
