Hi guys, when I customise my toolbar by dragging new buttons, eg grow/shrink font, justify text, the next time I log in and open Word the changes have disappared.

My colleague here in the office tested his settings on his own computer and also on another computer using his profile and found the toolbar stayed as he set it not matter which computer he logged in on. My Word settings won't stick even on my own computer, let alone on another one.

Other customisation settings work fine on other computers - including Outlook it's just Word that has this fault.

Does anyone know what might be causing this issue and how I might be able to fix it?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jo

Make the changes, close word, restart windows and check .
Often if you use a program after you make changes, the settings will revert when you close the program.

Thanks for the reply. Sadly that suggestion didn't work.

A 'trick' that sometimes works for obscure problems in Word is to locate normal.dot and delete it. Word will recreate it when next fired up.

For safety you could rename normal.dot to normalold.dot rather than delete it just in case anything fouls up.

Thanks for replying, Pete. I renamed normal.dot and opened Word, made several changes to the toolbar, then logged off. When I logged back in, two of my customisations remained but the others did not.

Sorry Newt - it's been a while since I checked on this post.
This is part of the office network which is Win XP Pro with SP2. I also have the same problem on my home PC which is the same OS.

Try the general, blanket, often-works-for-strange-issues fix.

Start -> run -> sfc /scannow and OK. (note the space after sfc). It will ask you for your XP CD - and maybe ask a bunch of times.

    Hi,

I have/had a similar problem... but only with Outlook (2003). I found a solution, which is to delete the file \ Documents and Settings \ {USERNAME} \ Application Data \ Microsoft \ Outlook \ outcmd.dat

Now for Word I found files listed as type Microsoft Office Settings File under \ Documents and Settings \ {USERNAME} \ Application Data \ Microsoft \ Office. I'd assume that Word11.pip would hold Words settings.

Might be worth a try backing up that file, then deleting the original to see if that solves it.
