XP-SP1 Home Only 1 PC - Only 1 User - Network adapter disabled
WMI is corrupted- I (JOE) is listed as Admin.- Do not need sign-on or
password to access Windows - I have changed some services in
    Administrative Tools(BIG mistake) -----Windows Explorer> C: D&S >(6)=
Administrator,- All Users,- Default User,- Joe,- Local Service,- Network Sercice. The first 4 all have "Application Data ".

    Administrator>Appl Data >Mozilla> Profiles> default> xxxx.slt(cache & chrome)
    folders plus 13 files>bookmarks.html, prefs.js & .bak, history.dat etc.

    All Users>Appl Data> Nothing much
    Default User>Appl Data>Nothing much

    Joe >Appl Data>Mozilla>Profiles> default,default user,Joe, each with a
    different xxxxx.slt

default has 8 cache folders, a mail, a news and a NIM folder
    also .w .s and prefs.bak and .js -history.dat and about 48 others

default user has much of the same- a total of 25

    Joe has 2 folders(Cache & chrome) plus 20 files

Do I have too many profiles in networking? Can I be the only Administrator?
What services can be stopped? Which ones must be started?

I have other problems that might be related to this.

Joe - could you please say exactly what problem(s) you are seeing. I can't really tell from your post what is broken.

As to your services question, the answers depend on exactly what you want the PC to do. Take a look at http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm for details on which services are needed for what functions.

joeskys--Agree with Newt's request, but you might also use his link to set all Services back to the WinXP Default Settings (which are indicated in the ElderGeeks' list). Then see what problems remain.
Having Services at default normally does not cause problems, just uses a little extra CPU. Unless you know what you are doing, not messing with the default is the best route.

Alicia J--Yes, great info, but "not messing with the default is the best route ". If you right click on a Service\Properties and look at the Dependency tab, you may understand this is not a simple subject. And the harddisk space and boot time, stopping or deleting a Service, you save is minimal.

    "Back.....

Newt: I have 4 or 5 things that are broken and don't know exactly where to start  Do I need all the user settings in D&S as stated in my 1st post? Each one of the 6 has a different xxxx.slt. I'm thinking that maybe one or more of my problems stem from them, as:
    1. I cannot get on Netscape as posted in that forum.
    2. I cannot print as posted in the hardware forum.
    3. Somehow, I lost my Search for "files and folders" and "On theInternet"
from the START icon as I posted here on 10/13.

I read your link to the Geek and will take that action today.
I ran HJT and have 14 entries under 023 which I didn't have a few weeks ago.

I ran Adaware and Spybot, had one baddie in Adaware which I quatantined.
I think I am clean now???. Hope this gives you some insight into my problems.

    Joe R.
