Howdy,Ok guys i'm trying to settle an argument with 3 friends, heres what i need to know !!
Can anyone give me the name of a virus, trojan or worm you are using for your source that doesn't need a registry entry to operate ???
Will system restore remove all viruses or trojans on a hard drive if you ran it ????

    Thanks

No system restore will not remove viruses and trojans. In fact it will often restore ones you have removed.
System restore is not a magic time machine or sophisticated repair tool; it is designed to restore certain monitored files such as your registry to a previous state if you mess them up. Of course most viruses will then detect that their registry entries were altered and restore them.
    Understandign system restore

Not sure what you mean about trojans and viruses which do not need registry entries.
If they do not have a registry entry to launch them at windows startup, they would have to be included as a plugin component of an existing program.
There are several which use a shell extension in win.ini to launch when explorer.exe is launched. So , I guess that that is not technically a registry entry.

I have had that same arguement with family and Friends. And it was not unitl they had a problem. Got it cleaned up. Did a SR and found the problem right back again that they found out for sure.

I do not believe it can be said any better.

System Restore can be a two sided deal. It can remove what you have added and put back what you have removed. And I personaly can attest to that.

This is why I strongly recommed that once you get a system cleaned up and/or working to your liking that you shut down and restart system restore.

Also. If you do do a System Restore it is a very good Idea to check your Anti-Virus and maybe even other software to make sure it still up to date.

That is another thing I have learned over a period of time and EXPERIMENTING.

I just updated my AV and a couple of other things this AM.

I immediatley made a new Restore point. And named it " After Updating. "
