3 days ago, my internet just completely died on me. Like it works, but it takes forever to load webpages-- and it's not my ISP, it's my computer. I believe I must've contracted this virus via Outlook, because I had a weird message pop up yesterday asking me if I messed with my address book-- and I said no. (The window indicated that if I had not changed anything, it could be due to a virus).

Although I did not download any attachments, I feel as if I might've contracted by just clicking on it for it to load in the preview pane in Outlook. (Perhaps something Facebook related?)

Please help! It takes me forever just to load internet pages.... I cleaned up using 3 different ad removal programs, so I strongly believe it's due to a computer virus. Here's the HJT file:

Thank you so much for helping me-- you have no idea how much I appreciate it!

As for that program, I have no idea what that is-- but I have a sneaking suspicion that it might have something to do with using the campus wireless. (I remember having to register for something in order to gain access-- so that might be what that is?)

I downloaded all those programs, and deleted some files off. Here is the report for one of the programs (minus the tracking cookies):

    C:\Documents and Settings\Don\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\8X81ABG5\ibar[1].js Trojan-Downloader.JS.IstBar.ad
    C:\Documents and Settings\Don\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ZH4G8BRN\init[1].js Trojan-Downloader.JS.IstBar.af
    C:\System Volume Information\_restore{B37680B2-BA0A-4E5D-BF30-83E44C588624}\RP802\A0129891.exe Trojan.Win32.Revop.a
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\svchost.exe Riskware.Server-Proxy.Win32.Bouncer.a
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ASSDOI.exe Trojan.Win32.Revop.a
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DEMLD.exe Trojan.Win32.Revop.a
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\sys\nc.exe Riskware.RemoteAdmin.Win32.NetCat
    C:\WINDOWS\wt\wtupdates\webd\4.1.1\files\wtvh.dll Adware.WildTangent.b
    C:\WINDOWS\wt\wtvh.dll Adware.WildTangent.b

Since some of these files seemed to be have taken care of-- I could not complete the manual removal of the Trojan and the backdoor that you had posted earlier. (Largely because a lot of the items were not present in the regedit as laid out per the intstructions. I'm hoping this is a good thing? Perhaps the scanner progs took care of them?)

I also killed those items in safemode-- and here is the new HJT file:

The internet is still a little slow-- but it's hard to say if I'm just being paranoid at this point. I remember even before I went through and did all these fixes, that the internet connectivity was very sporadic. It'd be okay at noon, but it'd really slow down towards the evening. Is there anything else wrong with my processes?

    Thanks again!!!

Well it even cleaned up a couple I did not know were there and the others I was going to suggest (Like wild tangent which installs a unique identifier number on your computer which can be used by other sites to track your internet activity). The only one I still question is Download Accellerator Plus. The older versions of this installed trackers and spyware, so often we recommend removing it too. But if it still works now that everything appears clean , I would leave it be.

I do have one suggestion, go to start/ run and type
    services.msc
    hit enter
    Locate
    Remote Packet Capture Protocol
Note what its settings are (Startup to automatic probably)
then change it to startup disabled and click stop service.
See if this has any effect on your internet.
If it causes any problems, return it to what it was.
If it does not effect things, I would leave it off for now and eventually consider removing it since I really do not like the way it sounds. As noted, it may relate to your college internet connection; or it could be someone monitoring your traffic.

Oh yes, regarding slow internet. It could be your firewall. Often a simple thing like a windows update alters how your firewall sees internet traffic and programs. I would rerun the program access wizard for your firewall and see if that helps. (Or try turning off your firewall for a few minutes to see how it affects speed). I have seen cases where a minor update in conjunction with Norton Internet security slowed a broadband connection to below dialup speeds until the wizard was run again.
