    Hi,

I'm having a few problems where my PC reboots itself quite frequently. On checking system messages in event viewer, 99% of the errors have the source 'System Control Manager' and event '7000' or '7016'. The complete error details are as follows:

"The General Purpose USB Driver (adildr.sys) service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." (for error 7000)

"The SmartLinkService service has reported an invalid current state 0." (for error 7016)

Clicking the link to the help and support centre doesnt seem to provide anything useful.

What is the purpose of the service control manager, and how would I go about resolving these issues?

    Thanks,
    Djcooran

generic answer = use devicemanger and uninstall/remove everything under USB section. then reboot.

disconnect all usb devices first. and when it reboots, check the usb section to see if u've got an errors. the generic usb hubs should install w/o issue but if there IS an error, dclick the trouble ones and choose 'reinstall driver' as xp w/ sp1/2 should contain the proper drivers to get the hubs working.

once u do this and it's ok, u can install u'r usb stuff but u SHOULD follow maker's advice on each since many require that u setup USB software BEFORE u hookup devices. not doing so can put u back at square one.
