Upgraded to W2KPro form W98 with a partitioned hardfile. C for system & D for data. Running out of C drive space (less thatn 15% free to run defrag). Looking for ways to move stuff to D.

    1. I have 2 recycle bins, how can I have just 1 on C?

    2. Any easy way to identify programs/modules that are on C not surrently used by an installed program. (Hanging chads so to speak).

    3. Howw to identify the data used with a progam so that it can be moved to D. i.e move Lotsu data files.

    4. Any other helpful suggestions.

    Thanks inadvance

    Pilotgal8,

You can move the swap file from the C: droive to the D: dive by going into the Control Panel System Applet and choosing the Advanced tab. The Performance Options button allows you to change the Virtual Memory layout. The Environment Variables button lets you change the location of the TEMP and TMP directories as well.

Lotus saves its data in the Work subdirectory by default. There is an option in the program options to say where this subdirectory resides. Microsoft uses the My Documents Folder in a similar way. You can change the location of your My Documents folder by right-clicking My Documents on the desktop, and then clicking Properties. In the My Documents Properties dialog box, type or browse (click Find Target) for the path and folder name where you want to store your My Documents folder.

I hope that is a start for you. There are programs that will look for duplicate program modules, Dupeless is a free one, that you could try as well.

Thanks a lot. Moving the SWAP will help & as I put Lotus files into subject files I think I already have them on D:

Is there any way to 'move' the program Files, or do I need to re-install the programs to D: ?

There are no ways to "move" programs that I really trust.

Best bet since you should now have some room from the above suggestions would be to figure out which program is the largest, uninstall it, and reinstall on D:

Be advised that if you are using MS Office and do the uninstall/reinstall, it will still place some pieces on C: in the common areas. Annoying but no way around it AFAIK. The bulk will go to D: though.

If you have most of the remaining room on D:, probably good to do any future installs to D: as well.
