For some reason at work, our network folders, the contents (font colour) have gone blue. It only appears this way on the folders on our server. Anyone have a clue what would cause this? This has happened on everyone's computer when they access the network.

One of the options under the Tools > Folder Options > View dialogue box is 'Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in colour'.

Are the files encrypted? - or compressed?

The files are neither encrypted or compressed that I am aware of. Even the folder names have blue fonts. They use to always be black. I noticed today though that when I boot my computer, they are black until I access the path, then they turn blue.

rclik the folder and examine the advanced attributes button. i'll bet ya compressed is on.

often done during disk cleanup due to checking 'compress old files' option.

That was it. Great work guys. My boss is relieved that it isn't something to worry about. (We have a portal created w/ Navantis using all MS products and the customization has been one BIG bag of headaches)

    This site rocks!

sounds good. for kicks, run diskcleanup and chek that the 'compress old files' is NOT checked. or it'll do the same thing again should u run it as is. it'll remember the checks in place and keep them

To remove that feature from Disk Cleanup and prevent future problems like this and others, create a .reg file using the following script and run it. You'll not regret it. If you prefer, you can delete that key manually since that's what the script does.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\[COLOR=Black]Windows[/COLOR]\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress old files]
