    Hi guys,
    you're welcome ...... :) ...... !

My follow up question to Dan, comparing FDISK which needs a reboot prior to formating, was not answered (I think). Anyway, that is what lacks in Windows PE if that is the only way to get a 'rescan' of the devices.

So, even if DELPART doesn't clear/rebuild the MBR, using it to give Windows PE a clean hard disk is simpler than finding a way to reboot Windows PE at the appropriate time. (What would you do? ctrl-alt-del? Hit esc or any other key to get some attention? Hit the reset button?)

To make the use of DELPART quicker, it would be possible to put it on a 'minimal boot' disk. No need for CD-ROM support, just DOS + DELPART and an A:> command prompt. I'm sure that a 'minimal boot' disk is available at BOOTDISK.COM. If not, there is one at PuterGeek in WinME plain bootdisk. I use that one for flashing BIOS and more.

F3 is my first choice, or the reset button if you have one. Never tried ctrl-alt-del in an install; may work. At any rate, can't hurt anything. Still think MS should correct the program.

Of course, F3 is the 'abort key' during setup, right?

This is the same thing I get when I rebuild every Dell. It seems to be a common thing.

    The Fix:

Edit the boot.ini file. If you read the boot.ini file you will see 2 duplicate entries. You can safely remove the last entry without any problems

Thanks, Dcrypter. How do I remove that last line? Sorry to be such a dummy.

Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > Start up and Recovery - Settings > Start - Edit > the file boot.ini will be opened in Notepad. Make sure that under Format, 'line wrap' is not checked.

Under [operating systems] there are two lines, each representing one OS. Delete the line that is not corresponding to the currently installed OS.
