    Running Windows XP(home) & Inet Explorer 6.0.2900(sp2)
    with Norton Inet Security 2005 package.

    Problem:
    When attempting to e-mail .jpg photographs (mail size 2-10 mb);
    the Norton SCAN of the outgoing mail takes FOREVER ... to the point
    that my ISP gives up and disconnects or interrupts the message.

    I found the Norton "options click box" labeled "Email - Scan outgoing Email (recommended) "
    and UN-clicked it ...

    Tried to resend my photo-laden email ... and the darn little envelope with the
    outgoing arrow was still active indicating a "scan" was still being done. :mad:

    Only way I've found to stop the outgoing mail scan is to completely disable the
    entire Norton package; which doesn't seem (to me) should be necessary.

    Using a dial-up connection, a big e-mail takes forever to send to begin with;
    Norton's "scan" makes it take forever times TWO!

    Any suggestions or solutions will be appreciated!

    Make the change in norton and then restart the computer before you open your email client.
    Chances are it is reverting since you have not restarted the computer to save your settings to the hive files or registry backup files.

    NUTZ!

    Tried that idea = Same ole Thing = STILL Scanning OutBound Attachments!

    I shut down IE and Outlook Express;
    then verified that Norton > Options > AntiVirus > Email > Scan Outgoing Email
    was NOT checked;
    then shut down.

    Re-Booted and before opening ANYthing;
    took a *peek* at Norton = Email > Scan Outgoing was still NOT checked ...

    Opened Outlook Express and fired off a photo to myself ...
    :eek: That darn lil "Envelope" appeared with the outbound arrow
    while Mr. Norton did his UNwanted scan!

    Clicked on Get Mail and watched while Nort checked it again on the inbound trip.

    I'm now *wondering* ...
    Is there possibly ANOTHER scan "option" dealing with just "ATTACHMENTS "??

    I don't "notice" the OUTgoing Scan Envelope when I send a text e-mail -
    but it might not appear long enough for me to see it.

    :confused:
    Any other *ideas*??

    Those are huge photos for viewing on a monitor. Most people recommend making pictures 50-100K. You can do that in a graphics editor, like Irfanview or quick and easy with an MS Powertoy called "Image Resizer ", which adds a right click option to resize pics.

    If there is a particular reason that the file sizes need to be so big, please disregard.

    Why so "BIG" ??

    "Big ones" are going to sites for possible future printing as real "photos ".
    But you also get "big e-mails" when sending a lot of smaller sized images
    at the same time.

    I found IrfanView years ago - I'm a Fond User of that Fine Program!! ;)

    I have NIS 05, and when I untick the "scan outgoing email ", it stops doing that. Symantec would say "uninstall-reinstall" and I can understand your hesitation for doing so, since Norton products are notorious for messy (and disasterous) uninstalls. I hope you remember to post your solution when you figure it out- I'm curious, too.

    UppyDate ~

    Just sent a long text-only e-mail ...
    and that darn little "Envelope" with the outbound arrow appeared!

    There must be SOMEthing that is overriding the "scan outgoing mail "
    option box that I've found and UN-checked. :(

    Any other sugggestions??

    :confused:
