I wanted to create a shortcut for Open Office on my desktop, but I apparently moved the entire program to my desktop instead. Simply dragging it back doesn't seem to be an option - is there a way to return it to where it was (the listing of all programs that shows up when you click on Start>All Programs), and simply create a shortcut for it on my desktop?
[Details, if they're needed: Open Office still appears under C:\Program Files, but when I right-click properties on the desktop icon, it shows up as C:\Documents and Settings\Rebecca\Desktop]
    Thanks!

Right-click on the Desktop icon that you created and drag it to the Start Button, keep holding the right button down, when the Start Menu opens, drag the icon to the All Program selection. When the program menu opens up, drag the icon to where you would like it and finally - release the button. Then select "Move Here" from the menu. If it ends up somewhere other than where you like it, just left-click and drag it to your preferred location.

That will get it back on the menu as before. Now to create a Desktop shortcut the easy way, merely right click the menu item you just moved and select Send To > Desktop As Shortcut.

    Thanks, Surferdude2!
That at least got the program back into the Start>All programs list! When I right click on it there, though, I don't get the menu that lets me send a shortcut to the desktop. My choices are: Open, Explore, Delete, Rename, Sort by Name, and Properties.
OK, duh - I got it. It's because there is a choice of items within Open Office. If I right click on the individual components, I'm able to create shortcuts (just in case there are any other challenged critters like myself who might be reading this!).
