For a while now I am having a problems with the NVIDIA graphic card or it’s driver.
I have these vertical lines on the screen, which first would show up every now and then but with time more frequently and eventually become permanent.
It was suggested I install or reinstall the newest driver, which I did but after a day without it the lines returned and progressively got worse. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the diver again but this time the computer just quit on me. After the Restart I could only get to my desktop in the safe mode and only disabling the NVIDIA driver enable me to reboot the system in normal mode. With the driver disabled, everything works but I still see some lines. Some programs, different windows show more than others, but they are still there only not as prominent as they were with the driver enabled. I spent about 2 hours yesterday with a MSW tech., who eventually told me this is definitely NVIDIA problem and he couldn’t help me.

    What should I do next?

Is this a LCD monitor? Try some of the following suggestions at this link concerning a Samsung LCD monitor and a Nvidia card 2 Vertical Lines - Problem?

It sounds like a progressively-worsening hardware problem either with your video card or monitor. Do you have any spares around to do some troubleshooting?

The easiest troubleshooting would be to connect the monitor to another computer and see if the lines appear, and/or connect another monitor to the nVidia card.

In Control Panel > Display, check the resolution and refresh settings are not near maximum. Check your graphics card model and monitor are listed correctly. If you do not have the User Guide, it will be available for download from Sony. See if there are (updated) drivers for it. The User guide will state the recommended settings, but they will also need to be reasonable settings for the graphics card as well, these will be in the manual/user guide for the graphics card.

The latest drivers for the nVidia card may not be the best for your model. Put your model number and "drivers" into a Google search. The gaming forums will tell you the ideal version for your model.

The graphics card (nVidia) drivers are best removed in Safe Mode. Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall any video/display software, then go to Device Manager and uninstall/remove any listings under Display Adapter. When you reboot, cancel out of the Windows driver installation and run the nVidia installation program when you get to the desktop.

After you have uninstalled the graphics drivers and before you install the new ones, pull and reseat the graphics card, even clean the connectors with a soft pencil eraser.

I know this is not a monitor problem. I replaced the old monitor, similar flat panel but diff. manufacturer, and the problem persisted with the new one as well. Your suggestions make sense so I will give it a shot this weekend. I will let you know what happens.
    Thanks

Well, well, I removed the NVida card which was covered with dust. There is a small fan on the card which was also filled with dust. I cleaned the card, fan and the connections and guess what?? BINGO no more lines :D :D :D
Now I have to work on the driver to see why it disables my system when turned on.

    Thanks for your help.
