I borrowed a Kodak camera and installed the software onto Win 98SE. I KNEW it is a "hairy" piece of software, so I only installed the minimum. Anyway, it now takes around 10 minutes for the system to shutdown.

What would you suggest? Any simple fixes? Stop the software from running in the background? Uninstall the Kodak software until I may need it again?

That is what I would suggest as a first try.

Over the years I have learned that the less running in the background the better. Not just because it may effect shutdown but also overall preformance.

Taking a few seconds to re-start or shutdown something may in the long run save time, compatabilty and other problems .

OK BB, I will see if there are disabling settings within the program. Otherwise, msconfig or HijackThis should do the trick.

    HA!

I disabled "kodakCCS" in msconfig....shutdown is now less than 10 seconds.

    Thanks for the good report.

That same idea has worked on MANY family PCs where even a Pro Tech could not fix things.

Start it when you use it. Shut it down when done.

I also use ( and have since WAY back in Win95 ) a program called Startup Cop to at least help control what loads at boot up. It loads but can be used to Stop other stuff from loading.
