I wish to remove some user ID's stored on a specific website. I'm told by that site's support group that it is the operating system that enables and stores this information so that it pops up the User ID choices each time I open that site. How can I delete these User ID's?

    Thanks.

    removing usernames

    Hi,

if i understand correctly your problem and if its appears while surfing and filling some forms (username, password) and you wants to remove all this then go to tools->options->content->autocomplete->unchecked all box and then ok->ok

it will then erase all stored username and passwords.

    :)
    Regards

I probably did not make myself clear enough. I wish to remove some but not all user ID's from several websites. I am not seeking to delete any passwords. I do not want to eliminate all User ID's from all websites. I was told that there is a file within Windows 98 that contains all of the User ID's I have saved and that they could be selectively eliminated by deleting them from this file.

    Regards,

These user id's are stored by Internet Explorer in the registry in encrypted form, making them hard to just edit out singly. This tool can help you.

Firefox is a Mozilla product. We sort of assume that questions posted to the Internet Explorer section mean you are using that browser.

    Moving this topic.

If you use Firefox, then go into Tools|Options|Privacy and Security|Passwords|Manage Passwords and delete what is entered, pertaining to the specific username.

    lgbest,

You can remove cookies for those sites. For an example, if you log out on this site, your cookie is removed, and when you access the site again, you must fill in your password again. Is this what you want to do? You can remove cookies in the Tools | Options | Privacy | Cookies | Exceptions. Or by simply logging out will remove that information...

    Am I understanding you correctly?

What he says is pretty obscure.

I probably did not make myself clear enough. I wish to remove some but not all user ID's from several websites. I am not seeking to delete any passwords.

I would think that if he removes selected passwords at any website, he would get what he wants. I suppose that I have a personal cookie for this website, or would I? Would the windowsbbspassword call my password, even if I removed it?
If so, it should be enough to delete that cookie, but not block it.

    Westside,

    In the first post:
From this I am assuming LG wants to remove the auto login on specific sites. Is that what you understand?

Hi Ramona and Westside. We're getting closer. One response indicates that I can selectively remove User ID's by using the Passwords tool in Firefox. I don't think that option is there. I read it to mean that if I select remove passwords all passwords and maybe User ID's are removed from all websites at the same time. Is this correct? I don't want that to happen. Suppose I remove the cookies from a specific website where I have both one or more User ID's and a password. (The password on this site never shows automatically anyway which is the way I want it to be.) Then I go back in and list only the User ID's I want on that Website? Will that work?

I just chrecked my Passwords for http://www.windowsbbs.com, and there was the Username:westsode. along with the username, the password can be viewed, in the Saved Passwords tab. There are websites where I have more than one username, and there is a different line for those.
I am using only the above username. There are, actually two cookies, one for the username, and one for the password. Since they appear to be non-specific, I would not like to block them, because I feel that they would block all requests at the website. A simple deletion may be sufficient.
Other than entering the website in the Never Saved Password tab, and deleting any password which you may have saved, I don't know what you want.

I never implied that all passwords for all websites would be removed.
As for the cookies, I would just delete them.
There is, also the "signon.txt" file in your profile. Conceivably this file could be edited, although it may be difficult to remove multiple entries.
A case in point is with aol.com, which lists five usernames, but since the usernames are encrypted, I don't know which is which. I would have to check my list of usernames in FF1.0.7 to see if I have five usernames. I should have four, two each for netscape.net and aim.com. I am in the 1.5beta2 right now, which lists only one password for screenname.aol.com

I have five in my 1.0.7. One for each username, and each domain (they appear to be the same, since AOL is not discriminating between netscape.net and aim.com, plus one with <> username, and no password.
I am not sure what that one is.
