    hi,

i had just bought myself a computer 3 months ago. The computer has been having this problem since 2 months ago: it would restart abruptly once in a while when I'm using it.

That being said, it doesn't restart everytime i uses it.

what would be the possible cause of the problem, guys?

This is quite bothering me as this is a newly purchased computer.

Generally hardware problem. When system "just re-boots ", my first guess would be memory stick(s). If running 2x chips, pull one, see if problem stops. If problem continues, swap sticks again. Can you borrow compatible stick(s) locally to test. Since system is 3 months old, would request warranty replacement. Hopefully is a local purchase / repair, makes this type of search and destroy much easier.

Another possible cause is a flaky power supply (PS). That's been my experience with such computer behavior anyway. If you have a spare PS handy, you can take about 10-15 minutes to swap it with the one you have in your box.

Be sure your computer's unplugged and you have grounded yourself with the case before putting your hands inside the box.

If you don't have spare PS, perhaps you can borrow one from a computer enthusiast friend for the test.

You might also find a new PS at your local computer store for around $30 - $50.

However, if your computer's under warranty, check with the vendor/manufacturer first (in case messing with the hardware will void your warranty).

Edit: Yet another possibility is malware on your system, especially if you haven't already taken steps to lock down your system against threats. If you can stay powered up long enough, it would be a good idea to scan your computer with reputable updated anti-virus software, anti-spyware, anti-trojanware, etc.

Please post back and let us know.

    Turn off Automatically Restart.

Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Under Startup and Recovery click the Settings button.
    Uncheck Automatically Restart.
    Click OK. Click OK.
The next time the computer crashes, you will get a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) with an error message. Type the error into your next post or into Google
