    Hi All
Hope this is the right place for this?
My in-laws have a web cam and were wondering if it is possible to record and save a video to a file with it?
I don't have a web cam and know nothing about them.
If it is possible, can anyone tell me how they would go about it.
    Thanks
    Geri

    Yes, it should be.
It really depends on the software bundle included. If theirs does not support this, they can download additonal software which will do it.

If they have windows XP , go to start/ programs/ accessories/ entertainment/ windows movie maker
If it is not installed, it is free from microsoft
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx
    Just run it and choose
    1. Capture video
    capture from a video device
select the webcam from the list.

Once done, they can edit it with windows movie maker.

One other thing I forgot to mention. I cannot stress enough the need for lots of light when using a webcam. If the image is not clear, or has color quality issues , the very first thing to try is to get lots more light. When I use mine; I use the fluorescent equivalent of 500Watts incandescent light bulbs to light the room . This is one case where more isdefinitely better.
