The one email client that handles IMAP mail more comprehensively than Thunderbird has gone Bankrupt.

This will be a personal tragedy for the few in a small company, and a disappointment for many users around the world.

This has just been posted on the Mulberry discussion list:

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the immediate cessation of operations of Cyrusoft International, Inc./ISAMET. The company today filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

This situation is the culmination of a series of events that has taken place over the last few months. Whilst I have made my own best efforts to avoid this, regrettably those came to naught.

Sadly this situation pretty much means the end of Mulberry. Its now almost ten years since I wrote the first code of the Macintosh IMAP email client that would become Mulberry. It has been a labor of love and much personal sacrifice, and despite this disheartening outcome, I do maintain a certain amount of pride of what was achieved with limited resources.

    Labarum,

How very disappointed you must be, as I know that you really do like Mulberry. Here's hoping that the new Thunderbird 1.5 will meet your needs, and serve you as well as Mulberry has done for all these years.

Drives me mad and amazes me with its abilities all at the same time.

    But Tbird is catching up.

There is a lot of discussion going on at the moment amomg Mulberry users about what to do next. The product is now frozen and unsupported. There is an outside chance someone might buy it and continue to sell and support it. Apparently it cannot easily go open source because of the tools used in its construction.

The program is used by many extremely able IT folk, and some of them are talking of building a lookalike from scratch which *will* be open source. Others are discussing what Thunderbird can do for them, and whether with sufficient effort the missing features could be incorporated into Thunderbird.

For the moment the traditional Mulberry mailing list is still working

    mulberry-discuss@cyrusoft.com

but a temorary Yahoo Group has been started in case the original list fails

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Mulberry-Info/

The Thunderbird managers should be made aware of this.

Do you know them Ramona? Can you tell them?

I repeat: among the Mulberry Communtity may be found some extremely able computor experts.
