My problem is my machine stops working after about 20 mins. I cannot access anything and have to switch off at the wall. After leaving it for some hours I can re-boot. The problem seams to be temperature related(?). I have tried removing cards and memory modules and re-installing - no difference. I have noted in the task manager that the CPU sits on 100% when total failure takes place.

I have installed a 2nd cooling fan but no difference.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Regards etc...

Windows XP Home with SP 2.

    1GB ram.

    Hi,
I'm not sure that a cooling issue will run your CPU at 100 %...My feelings take me in the opposite direction, and in your best intrest running and posting a HijackThis log in the proper forum will help confirm my suspicions.

    Hi, nargh.

    Expanding on Master Green's suggestion...

First follow the instructions in this post link.

    Then...

You can download HiJackThis (HJT) via this link.

After downloading hijackthis.zip, unzip its contents to a new folder you create on your hard drive (such as C:\HiJackThis) and then run the hijackthis.exe file in that folder. Do not instruct HiJackThis to "fix" anything. HJT should create a hijackthis.log text file in the same folder which you can open with Windows' Notepad.

After you have run a HiJackThis scan, copy/paste the entire contents of your hijackthis.log report to a new thread in the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum.

Be sure to give a descriptive title to your post (such as "100% CPU usage freezes computer after about 20 min [HJT Log] ") and include details of your computer's misbehavior in the beginning of your post. Also include details about what actions you have already taken (such as running Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware with the latest updates, virus/trojan scans, etc.) at the beginning of your post.

Then patiently wait for an expert to provide instructions. :)

If you need further assistance with my instructions, please ask here.

    Gents,

Many thanks for your replies. This thread continues in the virus forum under the above title.
