Do you have an Iomega Zip drive in the computer by any chance?

    disk copy

To copy in dos open up a dos window. One way is to type command in the run menu. Once your in dos, type diskcopy a: a:
Press enter. Then follow the prompts. You will be asked to insert the first disk. Once done press enter. Your floppy should start working for a few minutes. Then you will be asked to insert the second disk. Then press enter. Your floppy should start working for a few minutes. Then at the end , you will be asked if you want any more disks to be copied. Press no if you don't want to copy any more disks.

I asked about the Zip drive because some years ago when I had a Zip drive installed together with the Iomega software there was a problem with copying floppy disks in XP. A bug in the Iomega software knocked out disk copying in XP and I may still have the solution filed away somewhere.

If you are unable to copy a disk via the command prompt as outlined by polsonja the floppy drive may be bad. Does it read floppies and can you write data to a floppy from Windows Explorer?

I can go to Dos. and copy to a A: but when I put the blank disk in when it call's for it here is the error message I get.

Cannot lock drive. The Volume is still in use.
    copy process ended

    Hello bobm,

I'm not altogether clear on how you're trying to do the copying from your first post.

What happens if you try copying to the HD first and then copy from the HD to the 2nd floppy?

    Regards - Charles
