We have a regularly recurring problem. Many times when we try to open the browser, Mozilla, Windows just sits there (& does nothing).

One solution is to Ctrl Alt Del & end process for Mozilla.

Another solution is to log off our profile. When we do this we get a window that says: End Program: XPCOM: Event Reciever. A bar goes across the box & then one clicks on End now - which takes us back to the main OS screen. We go back into our profile & we can use Mozilla again.

My husband also has Windows locking up when using Google.

Does anyone have any solutions? Should we switch to Explorer for the browser? I'm using Norton firewall & antivirus.

    Thanks much!

bensenc - Welcome to the Board :)

I have moved your thread to the Netscape & Mozilla forum where you should receive more expert advice.

Do you still have a Netscape 6 or 7.x installed, and are using the same profile for both?

    Welcome to the Forum, bensenc!

    bensenc,

My first suggestion would be to disable Quick Launch permanently, as it can cause more problems than it's worth.

XPCOM is the cross platform component object model that's used by a number of programs, including Mozilla, and Firefox. I've seen several suggestions for fixing the specific problem you are having, and these are the most consistent.

Run AdAware, and Spybot to eliminate the possibility of malware/spyware. Also check your startup programs to ensure that nothing unusual is listed.

Have you checked the Firewall to ensure that it isn't blocking Mozilla?

If no spyware is found, then uninstall Mozilla
First, backup your plugins folder if you have added plugins

    Uninstall using Add/Remove Programs
    Delete the Mozilla Program folder:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla

    REBOOT THE PC

    Install Mozilla 1.7.12: http://www.mozilla.org/releases/

Let us know if the above helps
