lpdrummer--But does the OWNER account have Administrator rights? Control Panel|User Accounts.
I understand this is not an office environment. And that you have not put any restrictive Policies in place.
Do you also run any third part firewall (like from Zone Alarm or Norton)?

    Hello lpdrummer,

Can't tell you right now why the problem with the settings.

    Start > run > type services.msc > ok.

XP's sevices page will come up. Scroll down to Windows Firewall if SP2 or ICF/ICS if SP1.

Double click on the line. In the dialog box that comes up, choose disable in the drop down menu under start type and > apply.

That should stop it from running.

FYI: to see if it's running or not, enable WF's logging. Go into the firewall by Manage Security Settings for:

Advanced tab > Logging > settings > check log dropped packets and next to C:WINDOWS\pfirewall.log click on save as. pfirewall.log opens with notepad.

    Regards - Charles
