I have a Win XP Pc that the user has 'limited' rights. I've changed the "Power Schemes" under Power Options to "Never" while I was logged in as admin. No I noticed that when logged in as the user which has limited rights, the settings are back to the default times. I want the user Power Scheme settings to be set to never as well.
I don't want to give the user 'Admin' rights.
    How can I do that.
    Thanks.

I would try logging in to the admin account. Change the other account from a limited to an admin account (start / run and type
    control userpasswords2
    select account
    click properties/group membership
    change to admin.)

Now reboot and login to that account. Make the changes , reboot and login to the admin account and change membership back.

I've done that but that is a silly way of having to do stuff.

If you have XP-pro, there is a better way.

If you have XP-home, that better way is not available.

Thus my original question about which OS version you want to modify. Trust me here - with nearly 12,000 posts, I do not need to ask a question to bump up my post count.

Are you sure it IS actually applying its own settings for the limited account? In my experience, all limited accounts tend to follow the power scheme of the last logged on administrator account.

Try it, and see if it applies with the admin account or not.

I found this site interesting but I definitely do not recommend it for any but the most expert. All precautions and a thorough understanding of what you are doing, what you risk, what to do to prepare for the unforeseen or disaster is necessary. There is a lot of potential for things to get real ugly:

For power options and topic see:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/aaron_margosis/archive/2005/02/09/370263.aspx

Keep it simple and use only the least risky suggestion. Preferably one that is easily reversed.

I personally have not had any use to try these and can not vouch for the tweaks or hacks. I just marked it for possible use should the occasion ever arise, out of curiosity mostly, for one of those rainy day "I'm bored let's see if I can break my computer today" kind of days.... :)

I see your signature experience level states:
but remember (and the metaphor is intended) POWER does corrupt.

If it is for just one user. Then make them a power user after that then have them login. have them change the power setting. change there account back.

AP, I would like to make them a power user but under XP you have only 2 options, Administrator and Limited.

In XP Home you are limited to 2 types of accounts, in XP Pro you have many more options. Did you do as Newt suggested yet?

Show me the steps to get to the screen where I can choose more.
    THanks.

Right click on My Computer / Manage /Local users and group / power users / add the user Name in there. log out and have them log into the computer and make the Changes you need. then login and remover the user from power user. if you still don't see power user add the user in administrator just make sure you remove them from that group.
