I have been having trouble playing an online game, so I contacted their suppport page, and got mailed this-

    "Hello,

The drivers for your network card are around four years old. It is possible that they have become corrupt and not processing information properly. You might try checking with Intel to see about downloading the newest drivers for this card:

    Name: Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection #2
    Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2449&SUBSYS_30138086&REV_03\4&1351887D&0&40F0
    Driver: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\e100b325.sys, 5.41.0022.0000 (English), 8/17/2001 08:12:10, 117760 bytes
    "

How would I install these drivers? Is there a site?

They gave you a generic "blow off" response. Obviously they cannot determine the exact reasons for the trouble you are having playing the online game unless they have ALL specs of your computer, including all software installed, system configurations, etc. Unless it's a specific isue with the game itself it would be hard to pinpoint the real cause.

The net card drivers you have should be just fine as they are IF you have ever played the game successfully w/ no trouble in the past.

While I don't play computer games, I do know that most online game troubles are related mostly to video hardware and actual internet connection quality.

What exact trouble are you experiencing?

By "Blow Off" response, are you conveying that they want me to quit emailing them?

Diablo II has run fine on my computer for years. Just recently I recieved an error- when I sign on to battle.net, it freezes on the "Checking versions" window. I have the latest patch!

I don't know what to do, as evrything they've told me to do has come out fine, showing that I have no errors.

If you are using Windows XP with Disk Defragmenter installed, you should find your Disk Defragmenter in the following location:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

The defragmentation process is CPU/HD intensive so it's probably a good idea to unplug your computer's Internet connection and run Disk Defragmenter without non-essential background memory-resident programs running (such as firewall software, anti-virus monitoring software, etc.). Do not use your computer for other tasks while Disk Defragmenter is running.

I suggest starting Disk Defragmenter just before you go to bed because the defragmentation will take awhile, especially if you haven't defragmented your hard drive recently.

Here is a link to directions about how to close non-essential programs:
    service1.symantec.com/support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/199712495221

Be sure to expand the appropriate item under "To close programs that are running in the background" before printing the document. Expand either "Windows 95/98/Me" or "Windows 2000/XP" (by clicking on the appropriate blue triangle), depending on your operating system.

Interestingly, it appears someone changed the blue triangles (mentioned at the end of my post post above) to yellow squares with + signs in them.

Perhaps someone made a suggestion to Symantec to make the icon function more obvious. (IMO, the "Windows 95/98/Me" and "Windows 2000/XP" text should also be hyperlinked.)

OK, I have defragemented my drives, and still no luck.

How do I download those drivers?

I'm guessing you can get your drivers via the "Software & Drivers" link on the web page that Zander posted a link to in message #8 above.

    Here is the webpage:
    http://www.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/pro100ve/
    Edit: same as Zander's
Anybody see any driver updates for Win XP?

Edit2: Anybody see any driver updates?

    Edit3: Anybody see any drivers?

Edit4: Maybe email Intel. If your drivers are corrupt you may need to uninstall them. The original drivers may be on the CD that came with your computer or on the Win XP disk.

lpdrummer, it may be a good idea to have your Windows XP CD handy and go to Start > Run...

Type sfc /scannow in the "Open:" field and click the "OK" button. This will cause Windows XP to check all its protected files and replace any that may have become corrupted. During the scan, you will probably be prompted to insert your Windows XP CD into the CD drive you originally installed Windows XP from.

The sfc /scannow (system file check) takes about 15-20 minutes to run. After the sfc /scannow completes, it will exit automatically.

Then you can go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > System to see if any changes were made. If any changes were made, there will be entries between event ID 64016 (Windows File Protection Start) and event ID 64017 (Windows File Protection End).

You can double-click on any of the events (or right-click on the event and then left-click on Properties) to see the event details.
