xp sp2 locks up nothing works but power off

i have xp sp2 , when working it just locks up , ctrl alt del does not work , just shutting down is all that works .

 

Check your event logs to see if they are catching any helpful detail. Click on start, on run, key in eventvwr.msc and click OK. Take a look at both the system and application logs.

If you find an event or two that look possibly related (based on time or on event detail), open the event and click on the icon below the up/down arrows to send a text copy to your clipboard and paste a copy here. We only need one listing for each event and start with only two or three that look the most likely.

Is there any common happening when it happens? Any application that triggers a lock, any length of time running that seems to have an effect, anything?

 

nothing in the event log looks strange but i will write the time down next time it happens.It just seems to happen playing pool on yahoo , watching a movie etc

 

this just happened did not lock up but just restarted on it's own.

control panel > system > advanced > Startup and recovery > settings > system failure
Uncheck restart on system failure
Check create log file
check send admin alert.
This should give you a stop error next time.

Bug Check 0xC5: DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL
(Well it is not exactly the same as 0x000000c5 - the 0x means that what follows is hexadecimal. IN all documented explanantions those starting with 1 and those with 0 , but it is essentially the same in nature and explanantion).

So in your case the device using memory address 805505a1 attempted to write to memory address
00000004
and did not have the correct IRQL to do so.


So what you can do is go to device manager and see what device is assigned (under properties / resources for each device) this memory address as part of its memory range and update its driver.

(Note that it could also be a virtual machine , like for an antivirus or firewall. Do you ever get a dll file or sys file reference?)(Indications of this being caused by trend micro products on the web.).

 

Everything seems to running good ever since i uninstalled avg.
I unchecked auto restart.
I'll just keep an eye on it.

Then it was probably the virtual machine used by AVG to run boot and startup scans.

I suggest avast as a free antivirus which is more customizable (has multiple skins, I prefer liteon) and faster and less demanding.
