Does anyone know how to add an entry to the config.sys file. I am looking to add "Numlock=off" in CONFIG.SYS

I am not sure how to open it for editing. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

yes...numlock is turning on right as soon as the ctrl alt del screen. Its off in the BIOS, but xp is turning it on.

Better yet, at the ctrl alt del screen I turn it off and then log on to xp. During the logon process it is being turned on again. ????

That applies to local administrator logging on to the xp machine.

    keyer--In your Registry
Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control panel\Keyboard you should have a string value called "InitialKeyboardIndicators ". If not, create it. Then, to set the Num Lock to Off, edit the value, and set it to "0 ".
    Not sure I understand that.
But have you tried the above suggestion or used the PCWorld program?

Keyer - config.sys is not used by XP nor is autoexec.bat. Changes to those files will have zero effect on how XP behaves.

In certain circumstances, an old 16bit program (DOS stuff mostly) uses them rather than the config.nt and autoexec.nt that XP provides to support legacy stuff but very, very rarely.
