Coincidentally, after using Norton AV for many years (since 1996) I dumped it a month ago in favour of eTrust EZ Antivirus. Norton served me well, but I thought it time for a change, especially having read the comments on the Board over the past couple of years re. resource hogging and also due to the fact that it's Worm protection insisted on flagging my FTP program (for uploading web sites only) as a source of trojans, which was not the case.

To date eTrust has not given any problems and I feel comfortable with it. The interface is simple and straightforward, it auto updates each time I log onto the Internet and does not wait for the scheduled daily update.

    Why eTrust?

Following this thread http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=44130 , in which there are many opinions, the over riding comment came from noahdfear - if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me :) plus the fact that MS gave away a year's use with their security update CD a couple of years ago - a sort of backhanded approval/blessing.

With the news that Kerio was to become defunct at the end of the year I am now running a trial of the EZ Firewall (basically Zone Alarm Pro in different clothes). I found that Kerio was a bit leaky on some ports, whereas EZ seems to be completely watertight - so far.

    HTH

Ez Armor is a combination of Computer Associates Etrust Easy antivirus, and a rebranded licensed Zone Alarm firewall. Now they also include pest patrol since they just bought that.

Early versions were plagued with problems with the ZA firewall integrating incorrectly and causing crash on reboot after install. It was so bad that when they were offering it free through microsoft I strongly advised against it (not everyone had problems, but enough had to manually remove the ZA before they could do anything that it was a bad risk).
Recently I have not heard any horror stories, they are using a newer version of ZA and have done a better integration job.

Personally , I used to use Computer Associates antivirus years ago back when Pierre Szwarc (now with X-Teq http://www.xteq.com ) was their head of software developement. I never had a complaint then , and it was a great application.

Did Kerio uninstall along with a registry search / cleaning do the deed ... no lingering issues? Still continue to use Kerio, still looking for a replacement.

I must admit to a simple uninstall through Add/Remove, but no issues to date. I will check the Registry and post back.

I have been a McAfee fan sense 98 when I got my first computer, as of lately there are issues that have gotten me to dislike them.
As with Pete "the over riding comment came from noahdfear - if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me " and EZ anti virus will be on this machine as of next month.
I put it on my sisters new computer and it updates as soon as she makes a internet connection.

This only refers to the Kerio Server Firewall, not the Kerio Personal Firewall, right?

Thanks Pete. I just downloaded and installed Zone Alarm free version. I used it some years ago, but it had gotten a few bad raps, but current version seems to be working ok. :)
Thanks for the alert about Kerio. I will be sad to see it go- but that's life I guess.
