    I, im having a problem.

    I cant get 2 computers on a 2 computer + Netgear router network to "see" eachother.

    Everything was fine then one day a few days ago things just stopped working.

    One PC is win 2k Pro
    Other is win XP Pro
    _______________________________

    When i ping the XP machine from the 2k machine using "SJG1983" i get:

    Everything as you’d expect

    When i ping the XP machine from the 2k machine using "10.0.0.3" i get:

    Everything as you’d expect

    When I ping the XP machine from the XP machine using "SJG1983" i get:

    Pinging sjg1983 [::1] etc

    Reply from ::1 : time <1ms
    Reply from ::1 : time <1ms
    Reply from ::1 : time <1ms
    Reply from ::1 : time <1ms
    etc.

    When i ping the XP machine from the XP machine using "10.0.0.3" i get:

    Pinging 10.0.0.3 etc

    Reply from ::1 : time <1ms
    Reply from 10.0.0.3 : time <1ms
    Reply from 10.0.0.3 : time <1ms
    Reply from 10.0.0.3 : time <1ms
    etc.

    10.0.0.3 is my IP address which i found by pinging "SJG1983" from the 2k machine. Also XP properties shows 10.0.0.3 as my IP.

    When i ping the 2k machine from the XP machine using "JD1977" i get:

    Pinging jd1977 [10.0.0.2] etc

    Request timed out. etc.

    When i ping the 2k machine from the XP machine using "10.0.0.2" i get:

    Pinging jd1977 [10.0.0.2] etc

    Request timed out. etc.

    Can someone explain to me what is going on?
    The pins results are confusing.
    I cannot access what you could call "shared resources" on either PC from the other.

    Thanks,
    Stuart.

    On the XP machine, try a reset of TCP/IP (you'll need to reconfigure networking afterwards)

    start->run->cmd and OK to open a cmd window
    netsh int ip reset C:\resetlog.txt and ENTER

    Thanks for the info,

    Unfortunatrly it has had no effect.

    ______

    When i: "ping sjg1983" should it not list my ip address properly (10.0.0.3)? It calls me "::1 "

    If something is unable to convert the PC name into an IP address on the network will that not ***** things up?

    When i ping "jd1977" - the 2k machine from the 2k machine it correctly comes up with "10.0.0.2 "

    _____

    I created a new user account on the XP machine and still no luck :(

    Stuart.

    Yes

    Yes

    ::1 looks like a piece from the IPv6 you have loaded (and probably didn't ask for and certainly don't need). Try getting rid of it so you only have IPv4 entries remaining.

    Instructions from Microsoft on how to do that.
