I recently downloaded AOL Explorer since I wanted to try it. Ever since then, my Internet Explorer opens to my home page and just hangs there. It's basically worthless now. Is there any way to get it back? Reinstalling it doesn't seem to help. I'm pretty confident that AOL messed it up somehow. I could try uninstalling AOL, but since it's my only working browser at the moment, I'm a little hesitant. Plus, ideally I'd like to have both. Does this happen with other browsers? Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Many times when you install AOL because of their pseudo proxy setup you must have the AOL browser open and minimized when online even if using other browsers such as IE and firefox.
My first suggestion is to try that and get back to us as to whether it works or not.

dacturbo--Another idea. When in IE, if you can click Tools|Internet Options|Programs|check the box at the bottom "IE should check to see if it is the default browser "|Apply|OK|Reboot. On reboot you should get a message asking if you want IE to be the default browser. Click Yes. How does IE work now?
Whether or not that works, and if you do not run AOL itself, perhaps you should also Start|Run|type msconfig|OK|Startup tab. Uncheck the box to the left of any entry that has to do with AOL Explorer|Apply|OK|Reboot. Now AOL Explorer should not start automatically at boot. On reboot, just check the box that pops up|OK.
If IE works now, and you do not want AOL Explorer anymore, you could consider uninstalling AOL explorer if it is offered in Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs or there is an uninstall file in its folder.

None of the proposed solutions worked, so I ended up uninstalling the AOL Browser. IE works fine now. There's obviously some sort of conflict going on there. Not sure what though.

    IE vs AOL

Ok.. This seems to be wierd. But the thing is if you want AOL to work with IE. The best thing to do is to get connected with the AOL Browser and then minimize it, and only then start IE. It usually works, check to see on your system...

I had tried minimizing AOL browser and then going to IE, but still had the problem. AOL's a fairly new browser, so all I can assume is that it has some bugs to be worked out - or my computer does. Anyway, I installed Firefox and have no problems (can you tell I'm not particularly fond of IE? I only want to keep it for certain things. :p )
