My win2k pro machine's sound system suddenly behaves like a fast playing tape recorder: any sound file or stream media played by it becomes about twice the normal speed. This happens when I use the web browser, media player, real player and all other media playing software available on my machine. Rebooting did not resolve the problem. Running sfc /scannow did not work either. Anyone has a clue to this case? Thanks in advance.

    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/everest.html

Get everest, go to computer / sensor
Check the power levels . Are any off by over ten percent?
(In fact, if any are off by 5% let us know)

Since it is any sound, I would think it was either your sound card or its management software.

Thanks for the reply. Everest did not provide any helpful information in my case but it indeed is a good tool for inspecting system-wide information. My problem is solved after booting into Linux once and back to win2k. The Linux system on my machine does not have sound configured, so I really don't know what's happenning behind.

    Driver problem

I've seen this happen in the M$ media player. I remember that removal and reinstall of media player resolved this issue. Otherwise, it's probably a driver problem (as per usual).

    Good Luck
