Not sure when or why this started happenning, but when I try to open the folders that contain any of my photo's, the window closes and my desktop resets. It only appears to be the folders with pictures in that are effected. Any help as to why this is happening and how to get around it would be appreciated.

    Welcome harbey

Suspect that's due to some computer pest. Check out the security write-up, and follow the advice in the stickies.

I would wonder what OS and how many photos you have in the folder.

I have seen this behaviour when you open a folder full of photos in XP and it has more than the memory plus aperture of the video card can handle. It tries to open them all at once and swamps the memory. It crashes explorer and makes the folder close .

If this could be the cause, here are two techniques I found work.

One is to go to the parent folder and choose view/ details and apply and choose make all subfolders like this.

The other is to do a search / find files for the file type (*.jpg) in the location (narrow it as much as possible).
Then create some new folders and cut (not copy) and paste to the new location.
