    Hi all,
I have just been informed of the latest update (8.0.3.3). I have attempted to download and install the latest update but it tells me that my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements. I currently NS 8.0.1 without any problems.
Anybody have any ideas or solutions to this problem?
    Cheers,
    Graeme.

It would help if you list your computer's vital statistics. The release notes are pretty specific . It appears, from what you say, that you are prevented from installing, but if you are too close to those number you may be inefficient.
Why was 8.0.1 ok, and not 8.0.3.3? I would not know.

    Hi Ramona, Westside,
I am comfortably above the minimum and meet the recommended levels - 384 mb ram, 1.8 gb free disk space & 1 ghz AMD processor.
If I cant sort it out I think I will go down Ramona's road of downloading the full installer.
Either that or I will move over to firefox when I finally want to upgrade.
    Cheers,
    Graeme.

I was thinking about installing Netscape and remembered BBS had a forum specific to this browser.

Currently testing Opera but read reports about Netscape was good for those who haven't installed Firefox (which I haven't  )
Is it true that Netscape can cause a spike in memory resources? (Opera can spkie also :( )
Is this why some PC's would not cope - I have 2GB RAM etc but just wondering if this was the reason for some not being able to upgrade

My main browser is Avant (shell for IE) this is the first time I have stepped outside to a standalone.

    miniB,

Some users have reported resource leaks when using Netscape 8.0.3.3. However, I personally haven't experienced this, running Windows 98SE with 384 MB RAM. I would say that your memory resource is more than adequate.

I also have Firefox and Thunderbird installed with no conflicts ever noted with Netscape 8.0.3.3. I think that you will need to give it a try to see how the application reacts with your system...

I know nothing of Avant, but other members on the Forum may be able to address that question.

All browsers which have been mentioned are Standalone, Firefox, Netscape8.03.3, Avant, you name them. Except for Opera which has a built-in mail client like old Netscapes or Mozillas.
I think that Avant was one of the finest browsers based on IE, but with many Mozilla, and who knows what else, ideas.
I never had memory spikes with 8.0.3.3 (I have 512 MB RAM)

Thank you very much for your replies, great to know memory spikes are not experienced by all.

I have only used Opera for the browser part of it but am not too sure if I will keep it installed or not (this one is on my notebook but it still has good resources) I have been to their forum and memory spikes seem to be suffered from v7 (not good) I have it 'looking' pretty but this should be the least of my worries

I don't have memory spikes with Avant although I am using an old version simply for the tabbed browsing. I really will consider Netscape now for my main computer as I think it is half way between IE/Firefox. I know so many use and love Firefox but unfortunately my friends (not in cyber  ) tested it and found it a bit clunky when compared to Avant for tabs etc

I really appreciate the feedback and am more assured this morning that Netscape may be a second browser for me to see exactly how it works on various sites. Thanks again.

This happens if you installed the netscape 8 beta browser and are using the update feature.

One of the following will work.
One is to visit netscape and download the stand alone installer
    http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/

If this still fails, you must uninstall 8 beta , choose to save settings and anything it asks if you want saved or deleted choose save. Then install , it will say folder already exists, tell it to install anyway.

    Thank you Ramona

I didn't realise the full install was available, appreciate the link.
I guessed my first download was so quick I would have to be connected to finish the install, I much prefer the full install :)
