My priority is very good/excellent printing of text; my budget is $125-$150 CDN. Thanks for your input. :)

If all you want to do is text, then a black and white laser printer (Samsung , canon, brother etc all make low price b/w laser printers in the under 150 range) will be most economical on large numbers of prints and the toner lasts much longer (no real problem with drying out like inkjets although may cake up if left to long). Laser also gives crisper (although inkjet is close) text and lines.

But if you want inkjet, unless you are doing a lot of printing , and doing it regularly a printer which uses cheap inktanks and has even lower priced after market options is adviseable. Inkjets tend to dry out quickly when not used, and then you wind up replacing the ink when you want to print.
On this , canon are great. While you want the manufacturers ink and cartridges to ensure best quality for photo prints, aftermarket tanks work just fine for text.

So it really depends on your volume and requirements.

Go to a store and do a few test prints, check out the number of prints per refil, and the cost .

timmins--The first few sites here will let you compare laserjet functions and prices

If you plan to print a lot of B&W and exclusively B&W then what oshwyn5 has said about costs of ink versus inkjets is very correct. If you would print only occasionally and would like color capabilty as well, you will want an inkjet. The increase in ink costs would not be noticeable on small volume. Canon and HP usually are top recommendations for inkjets.
