    Pete,
I couldn't click on icon under the up/down arrows, so I wrote down what was offered:
    Error 9/5/2005 10:13:16 AM viasraid None 9 N/A IRVING-088C5CA3
    "The device, \Device\Scsi\viasraid, didn't respond within time-out specified ".

    Warning 9/5/2005 10:09:39 AM Tcpip None 4226 N/A IRVING-088C5CA3
"TCP/IP has reached security limiting posed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts "

This doesn't sound like it is the cause of my problem....does it???

Well, the first shouldn't have a bearing on the web problem ....
From this I assume you have a SATA drive or a SATA based RAID on your PC?
Possibly a contributing factor, but well outside my current experience :( Google was not much help and I am reluctant to try out the odd idea on your PC. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable on these matters will drop by.

    Pete,
I do have a Seagate SATA 80 gig drive.

    Will await advice from others.
    Thanks.

Haven't forgotten you. How about trying a different angle?

Suggest you download Firefox from www.mozilla.org and try it for a few days to see if it's any faster and more reliable downloading web pages. This won't immediately solve all your problems but may narrow down where the problem lies, possibly elsewhere than with IE.

    Sparrow,
Taking your suggestion, I've downloaded Firefox....not the plugins yet.
So far, I checked the clicking links in Lockergnome newsletter and e-mails from PC Mag....which also has link or two.
Neither of these hasten the downloaded pages that I get from IE.
So, I think that since I am used to IE, I will keep IE as main browser...but I will try using Firefox for a few days, as U had suggested.
Maybe other links will work faster than the experience I've had this morning.

Good. If the speed is the same, approximately, and reliability no better, then it's unlikely that working on IE would solve the problem. Would take a closer look at the ISP and your connection, and other software like antivirus , antispyware, and your firewall.

    Sparrow,
I uninstalled Firefox since I didn't notice any improvement....I prefer IE.
    I use broadband connection with Cableone.net for almost 2 years with no problems. Cableone's 24/7 couldn't help....usually can't anyway.
I use AVG and never had a problem, so I don't think this a cause of my problem.
I also use AdAware, Spybot, a-squared, and CCleaner......not all at once or more than weekly.
I use MS AntiSpyware and MS OneCare. (the OneCar is a "beta ".....maybe that could cause problems?)
    Will keep U apprised.

Thanks for the follow-up. Ir may be that the cause of your problem, being intermittent, will not become obvious for some time, so let us know of any new developments.

There's nothing wrong with your approach to security. It's more thorough than mine; I wouldn't experiment with beta security software. There's always potential for some conflict between such programs and the rest of what's running. Suggest you reconsider your use of both MS programs for the present and add Spywareblaster, which uses very little resources.

princessmandi8--Following up on what sparrow has said, you are duplicating functions with One Care running along with other antivirus programs, firewalls, especially. (I don't think it is as much of a problem that OneCare has an antispyware function which would be a fourth antispyware program when added to AdAware, SpyBotS&D and MSAntiSpyware. I am not sure about that, but I run MSAS along with AdAware without problems.)
So I would probably uninstall OneCare, since it is a beta.
Also WinXP comes with a firewall by default. I cannot remember, do you have any thirdparty firewall installed--like ZoneAlarm? If so, you only want one firewall running, so disable Windows Firewall (Control Panel|Windows Firewall). And if you keep OneCare, then disable the other firewall(s). However, if OneCare is the only firewall running then be sure Windows Firewall is running before uninstalling OneCare. But recognizing you should have only one firewall, I would chose something like ZoneAlarm.

P.S. Assume you have seen this about Windows Firewall
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=47781

P.P.S. The latest OneCare page says the following
    "Detection of conflicting applications
Did you know that, like other security programs, Windows OneCare does not support operation on a PC that has other antivirus or firewall programs installed? Many folks have been confused by this, so we've added a feature at setup that informs you of the specific programs that need to be uninstalled prior to Windows OneCare installation. This new detection feature provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to remove the conflicting software "

    an interim reply:
Sparrow.....I have been using Spyware Blaster for the better part of a year. (at runs in the background). Always keep it updated (presently at 4349 items in database).
JIm....all of my anti-spyware programs have been installed and run without problems. OneCare gave me a problem a week or so ago.....couldn't activate the firewall...either right-clicking icon in system tray or Control Panel and Windows Firewall. Eventually I was advised by MS tech to uninstall and reinstall. Did that, and it is running flawlessly.
I have Broadband (CableOne.net) as my ISP. I have a wired router and I believe it has a firewall. So, with router and MS Firewall, I felt that I didn't need Zone Alarm.
That's my input for now....will keep U posted.
I plan to run ScanDisk (chkdsk) when I start up in the morning. See it that helps any.
