I have a program (OpenOffice.org) on my pc which has no uninstaller included with it, and it is not listed in the Windows 'add/remove' list. The usual procedure for uninstalling this program would be to run the program's exe. and choose 'Uninstall' instead of 'Install'. Unfortunately, attempting to run the exe. fails (as does attempting to open the program itself, hence my desire to uninstall it). Is there another way to remove this program? I could use the 45mb space it's occupying. Many thanks.

OOo does include an uninstaller, as well, should be listed in Add/Remove. If not listed, should be able to uninstall using .exe and choosing "Remove" as you mentioned. If none of those work, sounds like you have a bad download. My recommendation would be to download again (possibly from another site)and try and install again, this "should" cure both the program not working and also give you the listing in Add/Remove.

Not all OpenOffice have uninstalls, not all have installs either for that matter. Some are zip packages that simply unzip to root\Program Files\Open Office\. Just delete the OpenOffice dir. Newer OpenOffice is a compressed zip with an install-uninstall feature.

Thanks, TJ. I downloaded another copy of the program and installed it into the original OpenOffice folder in 'Program Files', after which it then showed itself in add/remove. A few steps later it was uninstalled and gone! I'm much obliged :D

.......and thank you, Tony. The folder still remained in 'All Programs' after the uninstall procedure, so I deleted that and its few contents. Hopefully I'm squeeky clean now :)

Believe me folks, OpenOffice is not the only software with this problem.

Via the use of programs such as RegSeeker and VCOM Powerdesk I have found MANY leftovers after an uninstall. Some of them even error message creating.

I have also had the problem where I had to download from a differnet site and reinstall in oder to have things work properly.

I usually ( but not always ) try to watch how IE itself or the Internet in general are behaving when thinking about downloading files. If it seems to be a bit slow or does not seem to be loading pages fully I wait till another time. Like right now both this site and IE itself are not behaving properly. So I would not even think about downloading something.
