When I was cleaning up programs on my computer using the Windows 98 Add/Remove Programs utility I uninstalled TBird 1.02 (having upgraded to 1.0.6 when it ws made available). Then I couldn't open 1.0.6 so I uninstalled it then downloaded another 1.06 from the site. When I tried to install it the message "unidentified error 7ZIP" came up. I went back and found another copy of Tbird 1.0.2 on my other hard drive and installed it on my C drive. I can't open it because it can't find the JS3250.dll file although it is on the C drive in the Firefox program. I tried to copy that file over to the TBird program using both drag and drop and copy/paste but this doesn't work either.

Any thoughts about how to fixs the problems are appreciated.

You'll need to do a thorough cleaning, deleting all traces of firefox from program folders and temp folders and possibly the registry, and in the meantime, suggest you download and install mozilla so you won't miss anything.

I assume this means I have something corrupted that is preventing me from opening TBird and/or completely removing it. I thought have removed it using MSWin 98 add/remove. My main concern at the moment is to NOT lose any email in my sent, received and archived folders under TBird. I can send and receive email directly through my provider using the same address in the meantime. I have a second hard drive. Should I move or copy things over or just try to reinstall TBird? If so what files?

    Thanks for the help. :)

You have been doing some strange things, which may have worked with your past situation, but not with this.
    1. The 7ZIP error has been encountered in Linux OS, or with NOD Antivirus.
The first case makes no sense, and I know nothing of the second one
    2. If you uninstall the program, you don't remove, lose, or modify the profile.
The uninstall should take care of the program which is installed in the C drive, may be on another drive, but I don't understand what you did with the reinstallation of 1.02. Was this this an .exe file which you tried to install?
    3. The fact that there is a js.3250 file in Firefox makes no difference. Firefox and Thunderbird have the same type of file, at least in my 1.0.6. Drag and drop is no good, because you would remove the file from Firefox.
    4. What do you have in the Add/Remove? Any Thunderbirds at all?
    5. I have had so many problems with my Thunderbirds that I can't count them.
I have 1.0.6 installed, and work from the unzipped nightly. I have created different profiles to avoid confusion, but, periodically the nightly has mental lapses. However, you have not done anything like I have.
I suggest that you see what you have on your hard drive, for Thunderbird, and uninstall, and whatever you want. But, I would try to install a proper .exe file of 1.0.6, in another folder. Just call it Thunderbird1.0.6, and direct it to the profile which you have, probably only default.
Try to open either from Start|Run|browse to the thunderbird.exe file and after a keyboard space type /p. It should be: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" /p
Then you can manage profiles, and create a new one, with a different name.
There are a lot of things which you can do. But keep all of the above in mind.

OK and thanks. I'm traveling this week but will pick it up when I get back to home base where I have a DSL line.
