When you are on a web page in Internet Explorer (such as Yahoo Finance) is there any way for that page to update automatically or do I need to use the refresh button

It depends on how the page is written - some may update automatically - others need to be refreshed - AFAIK.

The only settings I know of are Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Settings > Check for newer versions of stored pages - click on the ? (top right) and then click on each line for an explanation. (screenshot)
