I'm in the process of customizing a tentative new Dell for myself, and am wondering what the difference is between the following:

    Dual Drives: 48x CD-ROM Drive + 48x CD-RW Drive [add $20]
    Dual Drives: 48x CD-ROM Drive + 48x CD-RW/ DVD Combo Drive [add $50 or $1/month1]
    Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 48x CD-RW Drive [add $20]
    Dual Drives: 48x CD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/dbl layer write capability [add $100 or $2/month1]
    Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/dbl layer write capability [add $100 or $2/month1]

Is anyone willing to enlighten me?
    Thanks!

The first is a read only CD drive with a CD only burner.
The second is the same except that it can also read a DVD but not burn one.
The third is basically the same as second but with a different setup. Go with this one before the second.
The fourth and fifth are basically the same with different configurations. Personally I'd go with the fifth.

    Hi Jay,

No - the fourth Dual Drives: 48x CD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/dbl layer write capability [add $100 or $2/month1] the first ROM is CD read only.

    The fifth - Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/dbl layer write capability [add $100 or $2/month1]
the first ROM is DVD read capable.

Agreed, the fifth option is the same money, so that's the way to go if dual drives are ordered.

    Regards - Charles

You're right that they are actually different but I was basically just looking at 1 ROM and one burner.

Bottom line is we both agree that #5 is the way to go. :D
