Printing a draft doc

I've searched the database and don't find this question addressed. How do I print a draft document created in OE? I create a doc to a recipient and want others to read it (not just SEE it) before it is sent. There is no print function key observable. How do I do this?

Would click on the text, anywhere, and do ctrl-a (edit select all) and ctrl-c (copy), open notepad and do ctrl-v (paste) and print from there. If you need it fancier paste it into write (start > run > write).

Sparrow ... where's Notepad? It isn't immediately apparent to me after following your sequence. The Write function worked though.

Pete ... I did the drag thing and there is no print function from the Inbox. Not one that I could see anyway.

No doubt I am missing something somewhere. Could either of you enlighten me?

On my machine, Print is grayed out. The same thing in Drafts

It would probably be easiest to just copy and paste as sparrow said. Notepad is located in your start menu in the accessories folder.

 

Thank you Zander. I don't see an accessories folder in my Start menu but I do see Wordpad. This has the same effect as Pete suggested.

I wonder why the OE designers didn't see fit to include the Print function either on the Create Post page or the Drafts file.

Shortcut to notepad is start> run > notepad.

 

Hmmm, odd. Mines in the accessories folder. Wonder what's up with that? No matter. It's possible I may have moved it in the past but if I did I don't remember it.

But now that you mention it I do seem to remember when I first got XP that it was located in start>programs. Seems to me I looked for it right away in the accessories folder (as in win98) and couldn't find it there. I'm not really sure about this either though. My memory must be fading.................

 

Notepad is not in the accessories folder, but a pointer to it may be. Notepad is in %SystemRoot%system32notepad.exe according to the properties of the pointer. However, it's always been in the windows folder, and on my XP it's in both!

 

OK, guys, settle down! I found it: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Wordpad is also on the same menu.

That's a lot of what I consider unnecessary steps for a function that a lot of users would find convenient if the File > Print was not grayed out. Why is it grayed out anyway? Is there a way to activate it?

For the meantime I will consider Control-A > Start > Run > Write > Print the best way to go. BTW did I mention I use WordPerfect not Word?

Try clicking on the text and then see if print is greyed out.

BTW, the same keystrokes up to the file name should work with WordPerfect, but if WordPerfect is not in your PATH, RUN won't find it; you'll have to open it first.

Yes, it's more keystrokes, but knowing several ways to do something can be very useful at times.

 

I am using XP Home with SP2 and IE 6.02

Now here is something interesting I just discovered. I created a test message and put it in Drafts. I opened the message in Drafts and went to File. Print was grayed out. I closed the message, highlighted the header without opening it and went again to File ... Print was NOT grayed out! I pressed Print and it printed the test message.

Duh.

It seems that opening the message and selecting it somehow disables the Print function. Actually, just opening the message does that.

Well, I guess we learn something new every day.
