Hi I just got back up to school, and along with it got a new Hyundai Imagequest L90D+. Now, as soon as i hooked it up it worked great, but after a couple of minutes it froze up! And it kept on doing that after i restarted it numerous times. So i reformatted it and it worked like a charm... until i installed some updates (critical updates, mind you). Then it would do the same thing. I have since then reformatted several times, and rolled back drivers/excluded the monitor drivers/system restored, and nothing seems to work. I am now trying my monitor on analog instead of digital, to see if it might have an effect due to the graphics accelerator card (radeon 9800 pro).

Does anybody have any suggestions to help me out with this? I am soooo frustrated right now...

Here are my specs on my comp, btw:

    Intel 3.0c 512kb l2 cache hyperthreading
    ASUS P4P800 E Deluxe MB
1024 MB Corsair TWINX 400mhz Memory
Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB AGP Graphics Card
    Creative Live! Sound Card
    140 GB Seagate HD
    Sony DVD-RW/DVD-R/CD-R/CD-RW Drive

    Help me!!!!

    P3nnst8r - Welcome to the Board :)

I can understand your frustration, but please observe Posting Rules #3 - Meaningful Subject. As it is your first time here I have edited your thread title.

Have you checked for updated video drivers?

Do you have the monitor drivers loaded?

After formatting did you install the chipset drivers from your motherboard CD? Also available from Asus

Do you have the option to try another monitor? - always possible that your Hyundai is faulty.

I have gone through that all and i am going to take it down to our local computer aid station to check out to see if it is indeed the computer. Would the monitor be able to freeze the computer, however? 'Cause i have run sound tests and it is the computer freezing, not the monitor locking up. Also, i have tried the monitor using its analog connection, and the same thing happens.

Also I must note that this problem only happens in Windows, I have left it running for extended periods of time in BIOS, dos, fresh install with AIM and all sound, video, etc. drivers installed (but pre- windows update), and the windows repair screen on my setu disk, and it does not crash. So this leads me to believe that this is a Windows issue.

    Hello P3nnst8r,

Have you tried the various startup options > start > run > msconfig:

Diagnostic - basic drivers and services.

Selective - menu of various options.

At the very least may narrow the problem.

    Regards - Charles

Actually i did not try that, forgot about those. thanks a lot =o)

Are there any applications to check the health of certain hardware pieces, e.g. cpu, memory, video card, etc.

I wonder if you may have a hard drive problem - has the PC been transported recently - you posted that you just got back up to school. - may have been jolted? I would check all the internal cable connections just in case one has shifted. A jolt should not harm the HD as the heads are locked when powered down, but you never know.

Suggest you run chkdsk /r ....

Start > Run > type in cmd > OK

At the command prompt change to the C:\ drive and type chkdsk C: /r - note the spaces > Enter and accept the message to schedule chkdsk at the next boot. Reboot.

That might be the case, that would explain why the computer freezes in the windows environment and not when i boot from the windows cd to reformat the drive. Also when i ran chkdsk C: /r it froze on both the occasions i attempted it: once at 79% and once at 51% while on step 4. I think im going to buy a new drive and see what happens, i needed a new one anyway >.<

    Any other suggestions?

As both the Seagare utility and chkdsk both freeze that is a sound move :)

If the new drive solves the problem you should try installing the old drive as a slave - every chance that you will be able to access it to recover data. I have done this several times on computers that I have worked on for friends where the existing hard drive has failed, but not catastrophically.

Yes, if the monitor driver/software resets the resolution and refresh rate on the video card and this is a non supported resolution.
