I tried to install .net framework from windows update with no success, I downloaded the setup and tried to intall manually but still with the same problem i.e. as soon as setup finishes installing an error window pops up "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled Process id=0xae8 (2792), Thread id=0xd2c (3372) click ok to terminate click cancel to debug the application.

When I tried to click cancel I was told that I had no debugger installed and when I clicked ok the setup was rolled back. I tried on both my computers with the same result.

    Any help please, regards,

    mario

Try running sfc /scannow to replace any missing or damaged system files then from a cmd window, chkdsk /f to clean up any other odd errors.

Download the .net 1.1 from Here and see if it works.

If not, check your event logs (start->run->eventvwr.msc) and look for events that give more detail about the failure.

Note that it is always a good idea with XP issues to say if you are running a home or pro version and what SP.

Was hoping the simple fix would work.

Do you have a file in windows\system32 named mscoree.dll and if so, what version number does it have?

Do you have a folder in windows\system32 named urttemp?

    Copy it from
    windows\system32\URTTemp
    to
    windows\system32

    It should be in both.
