Is there a history log available in xp? I often start a process b4 leaving home and occasionally when I get home the program is turned off. I'm trying to figure if my pc restarted on its own or if I have other problems.

Take a look in the Event Viewer. This is in the Control Panel > go to Admin Tools and you will see it there.

Click on the icon and you can look into Apps, Security, Sytem, and Antivirus logs. With Event Viewer, users can monitor events recorded in the Application, Security, and System logs. Read the Help file in it for more info

Thanks for the reply, but I'm looking for something more descriptive. This doesn't show restarts etc. For example it shows the security center started but not why or what program.
Perhaps I need a utility, anyone know of one?

Take a look at some of the free ones available from www.sysinternals.com

They will offer you more information. Lots more. Hugely, gigantic lots more.
