When I read a post with an attachment I cannot see any icons in the "attached Thumbnails" window, it is just empty. Any ideas?

OLDSALTY--Is "attached Thumbnails" the name of the attachment?
Is this type of attachment coming from only one sender, or are all attachments being received by you received with this name and behavior?
If only one sender, my guess is that that sender is indeed sending you the Thumbnail image from a folder containing images. But that shows nothing on your PC, because the thumbnail shows links to images on the sender's PC. But he did not send the images, just the thumbnail. In other words the sender did not really sent you any images. They are still on his PC. (On his PC the thumbnail would look like a "proof sheet" when you get a roll of film developed-- very small versions of the images in that folder. You don't even get to see the "proof sheet ", because, as mentioned, the links are missing on your PC.)
See for yourself. Windows Help instructions about Thumbnails--
"Select the folder that contains the files you want to view.
On the View menu, click Filmstrip, Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, List or Details. "

The fix is to ask the sender to send you the invidual images.

Of course, if the situation is not as I assumed in the first two sentences, or I am not understanding what the situation is, post back.

Hi Jim, sorry about the ambiguity. When one uploads a file to Windows BBS attached to a post, there is a section below the post that is titled "Attached Thumbnails ". I can not see anything in that section. On my other computers I can see them. I am using a Sony Vaio laptop, XP home, 512 MEG RAM, 40 Gig hard drive, Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz and SP 2 and all updates are loaded.

OLDSALTY--Is this happening on all Attached Thumbnails posted here? Do you have problems seeing images on other websites with this PC?
Simplest fixes would be to click Refresh. Or right click on place where image should be and click Show Picture. Or you could look into IE Tools|Internet Explorer|Advanced tab. Is the box in the Multimedia section "Show Pictures" checked? If not check it|Apply|OK.
Post back if these do not work.
Are you using the same internet connection/ISP for this PC as you use for the others?
P.S. Sorry about the confusion. You posted in the Internet Explorer/Outlook Express forum and talked about posts. I leapt to the conclusion you were talking about emails.

It is happening on all posts.
I don't have any other problems seeing on other sites that I know of.
Show Pictures is and was checked.
I am using the same router to access the internet.
    I am talking about IE.

I read this post and is seems Vicki was having the same porblem. I shut down my firewall and then I can see the uploads in the post, any post that has an upload. I start up the firewall and they go away. There is no answer as to how she fixed it. Any ideas. I am using CA eTrust firewall

OLDSALTY--Vicki found what you did. Disabling the firewall did the job.
But I wonder if perhaps you have both EZ firewall and Windows Firewall running. You should only run one firewall. Check to see if your Windows Firewall is on. (It is installed automatically with WinXP.) Control Panel|Windows Firewall. If on, turn your EZ Firewall back on and then turn Windows Firewall off.
While you should not have more than one firewall running, it also is not good to have no firewall running.
Sorry I cannot give you specific advice on how to configure EZ so you can keep it running and still see the thumbnails.

    See if this helps...

Sorry that I wasn't more clear on how I got my "attached thumbnails" to working (in my similar post). But I had followed Steve's advice and basically just experimented with the settings on my EZ firewall (I'm not using any other as none is provided with W98 or IE6?).

At any rate, I think  what I did was to open my EZ firewall program, clicked on the "tab" that says "site list ", highlighted the "www.windowsbbs.com" and clicked on the "add" button. Then also used the "option" button and let it "allow" all of the options listed there (i.e. mobile code, session cookies, session cookies, persistent cookies and 3rd party cookies). At any rate, everything seemed to have worked fine after that! :)

Hope this will help you as well?

    Good luck!
    Vicki

    Jim, Thanks for the thought.
Yes they were both running. I shut off the Windows firewall and I still have the same problem.

I'm using the Etrust firewall too and was able to duplicate your problem by setting ad blocking to high. Setting it to medium made the attached pics show. You might have a look at that to see how it's set. Mine has always been disabled. To check it out, open Etrust firewall and click on privacy on the left side. From there, it's pretty much self explanatory.

I received my answer from eTrust support. Once again thank you everyone, you were all answers. The complete answer lies in the link below. The thing is that all of your suggestions must be implemented for the thumbs to appear. They are now working with the firewall up.
