    Ok, I got ME.
Yes, we know it's fickle !
    Here is my question:

Is there a stand alone *.exe file that will accomplish the shutdown sequence ?

    Reason for asking:
    A. ME sometimes shuts down and then turns off the computer.
Somewhat the same as XP. This is the desired method.

    B. At other times ME displays a message " It is now safe to turn off your computer ".

    C. Most of the time ME just blanks the screen - have to manually turn off the computer. However, at times it is an incorrect shutdown - and again it may be a good shutdown.

So, if I could just "run" a stand alone *.exe file to do a "complete" shutdown !

    Thanks

Allright, so why use ME any longer ?
Because we got programs that go all the way back to DOS days.
Yes we got XP Pro on another machine - and XP will not run these older programs !

Normally , you click shutdown, and windows tells all programs which are still running to save their data, close , and report back when done. If one fails to do so , you get the infamous "program not responding" which allows you to kill it.
Then it tells all devices to save their drivers and either shut down or load dos/ bios drivers and report back. If one of these fails to respond you just get a hang at "windows is shutting down "
Finally , windows turns things over to msdos.sys which saves windows and closes things , turns stuff over to the mother board which turns off power (If it fails at this stage you get the "It is now safe to turn off your PC" screen)

Normally your problem indicates that power management (APM or ACPI ) is not enabled in the bios, or that it was not correctly loaded in control panel / hardware.
