The Ghost manual states that Ghost should not be run if Partition Magic is open. Since there is a possibility that PM could start up through either Startup or Registry entries, does anyone know if it does start up? None of the options in PM are related to startup.

Ghost 2000-2003 and PM run in DOS, so there's no possibility of conflict. You can't run them simultaneously if you try. The message possibly applies to the setup program for Ghost that runs in windows and the portion of PM that also runs in windows. But afraid I don't see the point of the message. May be for another version?

I'm only familiar with Ghost 2000-2003. These are the only recommended versions. What version are you asking about?

The latest version is 9.0X which I am using to replace v2003. It apparently runs in WIN XP and is slightly different than 2003. I don't remember such a warning in that version, and I aqree about it running in DOS so Windows would never have opened. That is the way I ran the program.

I hereby nominate You for the Understatement of the Year Award ...... :) ...... ! Ghost 9 is a totally different critter and has its roots in PowerQuest DriveImage.

I have used neither Partition Magic nor Ghost 9 but to find out if any instance of either application is running in the background:

Start > Run > type: msconfig > OK > go to "autostart "

Although I am fairly certain that what they are referring to is that you should not launch partition magic, repartition your drive and then attempt to launch ghost and create an image without first shutting down completely.

It is possible that they are referring to a possible problem occurring when you restore a ghost image of a drive with partition magic installed and an option in the boot options to boot to partition magic. In this case, uninstall partiton magic first.

Many thanks for your replies. Several years ago when I first used Ghost I did look at Radified(sp) notes about Ghost but at that time the notes were quite old and not updated. I appreciate your bringing this to my attention again, because it is now up to date.
You might be interested to know that the box set of Ghost 9.0 also comes with a CD for Ghost 2003 to use for WIN98, 2000,NT etc. To claim a rebate for a Ghost upgrade, I submitted my old copy of Ghost 2003, only to obtain the new one in the box. I also made a backup copy of the one I sent back. I will read the notes very carefully because once I wiped out my hard drive with Ghost--fortunately soon after I bought the computer, so not much was lost. Still it was a traumatic experience.

Ghost 2003 runs in DOS, Ghost 9 doesn't. Ghost 9 runs directly from within windows.
