This sounds dumb - but My desktop display does not keep everything in full alphabetical order - even after I sort on name. I know there are better ways to access my programs, but I like the desktop way for many of mine.

It sorts the programs in 2 sets of alphabets - goes from A to Z for the 1st 40 then begins all over again for the next 19. I am not counting the 1st ones such as my computer etc. which are before the first in alphabetical order.

Also, the sort goes from top to bottom and on my old Win98 pc they went from side to side.
Is there a way to make it do what I would like or am I stuck?

I can hear you all yelling at me to clean up my desktop but just ignore the inefficiency of my way and let me know if there is an answer.

    Thanks,

    Jorjab

    :)

No yelling from me - ~65 icons at the last count :D

Right click on a blank area of the desktop > Arrange icons by > align to grid.

Then sort them as you want them. I use Desktop Restore to restore the arrangement if it gets messed up.

    Thank you

    Pete,

I tried your suggestion - not the ideal solution - pain to rearrange but it works and I can now save it.

    Thanks again
