[Error loading operating system]

I started up my computer and now I have a message that says "Error loading operating system ".

It was working fine this morning - I went to work and now this any suggestions???

I need help.

 

Do you have a virus, spyware, or adware on your computer that could stop the computer from loading? Or a file could be corrupt

 

Is that ALL of the error message?

Does the PC start at all? If not, exactly where does it stop?

Do you have an XP install CD you can boot from or only one of those recovery things some companies provide?

 

I had to give it a friend of mine that is an IT expert and apparently my hard drive was totally dead - something about the drive was parked and he could not get anything out of it. Had a new hard drive installed but unfortunately lost everything I had on that drive. Most of the things I had were not backed-up so big no-no on my part but I've learned.
