    I have a Win98SE pc here,
as usual, it came to me full of spyware and the odd virus!
Cleaned it all up, all working fine apart from one thing.

Every time IE is opened a Windows Installer box appears saying
"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available.
Insert the 'System Files Update' disk and click OK.

If you click cancel then the same box pops up again.
click cancel a second time and IE opens up and works fine.

The only thing I can find out is that 'System files update' might be to do with Office.

Office 2000 is installed, and I have removed and reinstalled but that didn't help things.

    any ideas?

    Thanks
    Chris

Have you tried a Repair if IE through Add/Remove Programs > IE > Change/Remove > Repair?

Have you run 98's System File Checker? I would give the location, but my Virtual Win 98 seems to have disappeared

The one time that I got carried away with the DELETE key and messed up and caused that error it required a full repair install of 98SE itself.

If you can connect this compter to the internet you might also try Windows Update from Microsoft in case it's looking for a critical or other update.

    Hi All

I have already installed 98SE on top of itself (twice!) and got every update available from windows update.

everything is working fine apart from this problem when opening IE.
Repairing IE did'nt work either ;(

Have you tried removing IE/OE completely and reloading? If possible, reloading a later version. I also suggest running your favorite registry cleaner after you remove IE and before doing the reinstall.

    Hi Newt.

I have not tried that yet, it already had the latest IE and OE.
I have just uninstalled everything i can including Office and updates, then reinstalled 98SE on top of itself again
but still have the same problem!

in fact the box came up twice during the installation of 98SE.

it also happens when i try to drag icons in the recycle bin...?
