I am migrating users from Win2k Pro to Winxp pro. Under Win 2k (P4 1.5), Office 2k runs fine; Now running same apps on p4 3.2 computers running XP pro, Access is really slow; shutdown is really slow. BTW I am using Sophos Enterprise for antivirus. i Pushed the image out via Altiris. Any suggestions?

Off the top of my head:
    • Check the size of your page file.
    • Delete files in the Temp directory.
    • Run disk defragmentation.
    • Run Scandisk.
    • Check Task Manager for any application that you don't want running that may be eating resources.

    Good suggestions.

    How much physical memory?

I would turn off the indexing 'feature' on all drives too. Open My Computer, right-click a drive and click Properties. Uncheck the "Allow Indexing ..... " box.

Unless you are RAM limited, there is something else wrong but be aware that XP runs like a snail on an amount of RAM that would keep 2K humming along. You really need 512Mb minimum and 1Gb is lots better.

Many systems will also run faster and more smoothly with XP SP2 loaded.
