    Hi Everyone,

I've been having a problem with WMP9 (imagine that!).
I add mp3 files from my D drive(40gb)and edit into existing playlists. After a while, some songs start playing bits of other songs or video. I have taken the same songs from the D drive and added them to my iRiver igp-100 and to a Firelite removable drive and have never had this happen. I've tried using MP3 Repair on the files with no luck. I've noticed this problem only started after I had a relatively large(8+ gb) quantity of mp3's loaded on the WMP9. Is there an inherent capacity problem with WMP9? If there is, any fixes? I've downloaded the Domino Player in an attempt ot avoid WMP9(and it allows U to print playlists) but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to set up separate playlists, etc. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any suggestions, links, help, etc.

Have you tried the venerable Winamp? With all the plugin's available for that thing there must be one that lets you print playlists.

To avoid some software glitch's, and if you don't need to burn with Winamp, install the full version but uncheck the Sonic cd burning engine when installing it. You'll get all the features and codecs and less of the Sonic bugs. And, you can either run modern skins or choose a less resource intensive classic skin as long as you install the full version. Choose what files you want Winamp associated with in setup, or later within the options menu. But I like to uncheck them in setup so it won't steal away the associations in the first place.

I'm mostly using WMP now, but also like Winamp. There has been a lot of work done to it in the last few years and it really runs well.

Make sure you set the audio device to your soundcard instead of the default system choice, set it to use hardware, and uncheck the default eq setting to get the better sounding EQ designed by the 4Front EQ guys.

    Thanks Eck,

Never tried winamp because I was told that it has even more bugs than wmp.
I'll give it a shot if you think these have been mostly resolved. Any links or ideas on where to find the plug-ins mentioned ?

The possible added plugins for what you want can be searched for on winamp.com.

The forums there are full of suggestions and tweaks, especially in the troubleshooting areas.

I use it off and on. I haven't had any problems with it in the recent past.

Make sure you change those default direct sound plugin settings I mentioned. Some of them might actually be that way by default now. Just do a little reading on the forum and if you have any questions the folks there are helpful.

Don't be too dismayed that it's owned by AOL. That's the reason it has been free all these years. The forum posters don't work for AOL or Winamp. They have a bunch there who have in the past though, and still contribute some features and plugins that wind up being included at times.

The newer versions have an on-line video streamer that the Music Library calls home to update. You can turn this off if you're not interested in watching the videos they're offering. Then it just won't update its playlist and links. If you don't use them you don't need the links.

Full instructions are in the forums. I can't be specific as I'm not using it at the moment.

By the way, if you use Nero it also has the ability to organize files for burning and stuff. You don't need a player for that.

I amn't guru but it seems it cannot be called CORRUPTING. Sometime I have same problem. I also have win98 and wmp and when I play movie from CD and then want to play another movie sometime wmp shows me pervious movie already watched (!) or even yesterday played movie (!!!)

Very probably! When I play only short clips or few mp3 files - everything ok. After watching movie (or 2 ones) I must restart computer - otherwise wmp9 loads same file that already watched (listened).

Maybe depends about memory volume? Not enough for wmp9 ???

I've got about 18GB of my mp3's that I recorded from my cd's using AudioGrabber with the Lame 3.96.1 encoder addon.

I have these all in the My Music folder under My Music\Artist\Album.

These all are managed fine by the WMP 9 or 10 Music Library, and the player plays whatever I tell it to without playing bits and pieces of previously played music.

Now, when I briefly tried WinDVD as a DVD player I noticed it was playing the vcd's I had just played and removed when I put in another one! This was a long time ago and it was the only similar experience to what you guys are finding that I recall.

WinDVD was the only player that ever had this problem on my pc's.

Possibly, having several different players and their associated encoders/codecs installed on the same system leads to this kind of thing.

To try and fix, you might try uninstalling all except for WMP. I mean all your players like Quicktime, RealPlayer, etc, and all your burning software like Nero, Easy CD Harddrive Reformatter, etc. Especially remove any codec packages. These things can be dangerous.

Then install WMP over the top of itself and see if that works properly. Then you can reinstall your other stuff. Finish off with another WMP reinstall to fix up what the other software might break.

    This might fix the problem.

Are you defragging the drive on which the MP3s are saved?
Defragging the drive can corrupt MP3s in playlists sometimes.

Ah yes! I hadn't thought of that.

I don't play from my own playlists, just the files organized by Media Library. It makes a new playlist itself each time I guess. So I probably haven't given WMP a chance to develop this problem.

Yeah, if a player doesn't find a file where the playlist is pointing to then weird stuff can happen.
